Background on the Program
Property owners across California are leveraging rebate and incentive programs to offset the costs of installing electric vehicle (EV) chargers, making them far more attainable than many property owners realize. The County of San Diego EV Charger Program is helping local property owners do just that. Through the program, eligible properties can receive reimbursements for the installation of Level 2 and DC fast chargers (DCFCs). However, this program is only available while funding lasts, and the first round of submissions closes August 25, 2026, so it’s important to submit your application as soon as possible. What You Need to Know
Application Window:
- Round 1 application window: June 25, 2026 - August 25, 2026
- The County expects to have multiple rounds of funding this year
Eligible Costs:
- Includes hardware, installation labor and materials, design and engineering, electrical upgrades, networking, signage, and related infrastructure
- Eligible site types include apartment complexes and multifamily properties (4 or more units), plus retail, office, medical, school, hospitality, industrial sites, and other easily accessible sites
- Chargers must be publicly accessible for at least 18 hours a day (except multifamily properties, which instead must be accessible to all tenants)
- Sites owned by Federal, State, or Tribal Governments are not eligible
- Chargers at single-family homes are not eligible
Requirements:
- Property must be within unincorporated San Diego County. Enter your address here to see if you are eligible
- Sites located within Equity Priority Areas may be eligible for higher reimbursement amounts based on certain community and environmental factors
- Multifamily properties will only be reimbursed for Level 2 chargers
Total Funding Available per Charging Port:
- Up to $5,000 per L2 charger ($6,000 for Equity Priority Areas)
- Up to $75,000 per DC Fast Charger (DCFC), plus an additional $5,000-$10,000 for each charger in Equity Priority Areas
Max Rebate Award Available for Each Applicant:
- $30,000 (approximately 6 chargers): increases to $36,000 for Equity Priority Areas
- $225,000 (approximately 3 100kW+ DC fast chargers): increases to $255,000 for Equity Priority Areas
