Background on the Program
To expand access to reliable DC fast EV charging along designated corridors, the California Energy Commission (CEC) recently announced it is offering up to $69.5 million in grant funding through California’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program – Solicitation 4.
The funding is designed to support the installation and operation of high-powered DC fast chargers along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors across California. Learn more about the program below, including who can apply, what the program offers, and which projects qualify.
What You Need to Know
Application Window:
- January 21, 2026 – April 22, 2026
Key Requirements:
- Applicants may submit up to five applications, with each application representing a different project site
- Property must be within California and along a designated Alternative Fuel Corridor
- Site must be within 1 driving mile of a corridor off-ramp or intersection
- Each project application must include 8 DC fast-charging ports and a charging capacity of at least 3 megawatts (MW)
Eligible Applicants:
- Private entities excluding investor-owned utilities
- California Tribal Organizations
- Applicant must have no more than 50 active projects across all CEC-funded zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure grant agreements
Total Funding Available per Charging Port:
- There is no maximum award amount per charging port
Maximum Grant Award for Each Applicant:
- Projects are eligible for up to 80% of total allowable project costs, or $8 million, whichever is less
